It looks really bad. It’s been terrifying going to the salon. I’ve been doing a Demi permanent to keep my scalp dark to reduce contrast. My friend maegan is going to cut it when it grows out a bit.
Pulled so much that I’m embarrassed to go to work tomorrow.
I may grab some hair powder and sprinkle my troubles away. Has anyone else used it before?
Using a lightweight conditioner and rinsing in cool water will smooth the cuticle and result in less rough hairs. In most trichsters it will mean less impulse pulling of “bad” hairs.
Lighter hair creates the illusion of fullness, but avoid using bleach. Bleach is incredibly damaging and can create rough texture. For most of us, those are almost inevitable to be pulled out. My advice: skip the bleach, or if you have virgin hair you can use a high lift tint.
I’ve had TTM since I was 12, and I’m 23 now. Very few of my friends know about it and it never gets easier. My only advice is that the more casual you are, the less dramatic the response will be. Hope it helps
The invati line by aveda. I’m going to keep y’all posted on the results! Also, a few tips for your new years resolution.
-wear a bandana (simple, but effective)
-conditioning treatments
-medical tape on fingers
-“no pulling” signs where you pull most
You are all beautiful.
Stop pulling.
Maybe 11th times the charm?
Studies have shown that regulating blood sugar can ease fatigue and anxiety, possibly reducing pulling. Last time I tried it because I have PCOS, which affects my ability to process insulin. I found I also pulled much less. It’s difficult for me because I’m also a vegetarian, but I can manage. If anyone is interested I will post recipes.

Aww this makes me want to cry! I’m so happy this blog has helped you. And congrats on one month! I know how hard it can be and this gives me motivation :)
It’s okay though. It’ll never be perfect and I’m still happy with my progress :)
I cannot emphasize how much I love Biotin.
First and foremost, it makes your hair grow faster and thicker. Also, it helps regulate healthy blood sugar- thus minimizing fatigue. It it relatively safe, but I would not exceed 5,000 mgs per day*. It is incredibly inexpensive and is available at grocery and drug stores.
*I am not a physician. Please don’t sue me.
I’m feeling a lot of pressure keeping my trich secret at the salon. I feel like such a sell out because I got my license thinking I could help people. Unfortunately I don’t have any clients with trich or alopecia.

I haven’t noticed that with any of their products. I was using a bed head thickening shampoo and conditioner and it made my scalp really itchy, which made me pull more. I use the lemon sage shampoo and then use a little tiny bit of the tea tree leave in. I can’t makes claims that using these products will make you pull less, but they have helped me considerably.
